Who is responsible for Workman's Comp and Malpractice for 1099 profs?

As a 1099 independent contractor, each dental professional who uses our platform is responsible for holding their insurance as mandated by state law. On the other hand, if you hire a dental professional and pay them as a W2 employee, your office will be responsible for insuring that professional, just like other W2 employees within your office.

Dentists and specialists who are verified on our platform are required to provide malpractice insurance for account approval. Certificates of Insurance (COI) are crucial documents that serve as proof of insurance coverage for professionals. However, Cloud Dentistry does not issue Certificates of Insurance (COI) to offices for professionals on our platform. This is because professionals using our platform are categorized into two categories:

  1. Independent Contractors: They are responsible for maintaining their own insurance and can provide a COI upon request.

  2. W2 Employees: These professionals are employed by the hiring dental office, which is responsible for providing the COI.

If you have any additional questions, you can contact our Member Services team directly via email at service@clouddentistry.com. You can also continue with the live chat to connect with an agent who can assist with questions regarding your specific documentation needs. Our business hours are 7:00 am - 7:00 pm CT.

If you are requesting a COI for a workers comp audit, please note that Cloud Dentistry cannot provide this documentation, as professionals on the platform are classified as independent contractors and are not covered under workers comp. Additionally, COIs are not available through Cloud Dentistry’s support channels and must be requested directly from the professional or the hiring dental office.
